What is a containment kit?

It is the first thing we do for you, on the visit within 24 hours, and it is what makes the wait until treatment day bearable. This page explains what it is, what it does, and what it does not do.

What it is and what it does

When we visit for your initial response, we confirm what is going on and fit a containment kit to each bed. It closes off the places bed bugs like most and holds the problem where it is, so you can stay in your own bed while you wait, which often means fewer bites. Containment does not get rid of bed bugs.

A kit goes on the bed itself. It seals the mattress and the base, so the places bed bugs live in and feed from are closed off, and anything already inside is shut in.

What you get

  • One containment kit for every bedroom, included in your price. A studio gets one.
  • Further beds are covered by extra kits, which you choose when you get your quote. Sofa beds and cots count as a bed. A bunk bed counts as one.
  • Every kit is yours to keep, whatever happens next. They are not hired to you and we do not take them away.

When it goes on

  • On the initial response, which is the visit within 24 hours of booking. We confirm what you have, room by room, and fit the kits on the same visit.
  • You do not prepare anything for it, and you do not need to buy anything. We bring everything with us.
  • Then you sleep in your own bed that night, rather than moving to the sofa or another room, which is what spreads bed bugs through a home.

What containment does not do

Containment does not get rid of bed bugs, and it does not stop you being bitten. It often reduces bites, because bed bugs like to harbour in beds and mattresses, but they can be anywhere in your home and they are there until the heat treatment. Anyone who tells you that a cover on a mattress solves a bed bug case is selling you something.

That is why containment is the start of a case and never the whole of it. Treatment is a few days later, so there is time to prepare properly.

How a case runs

Keeping it afterwards

  • Keep the containment kits on your mattresses. They stop bed bugs settling in the seams and make anything new easy to spot.
  • Leave the interceptors we fitted under the bed legs. Check them once a week, and keep checking after your warranty ends. They are the earliest warning you will get.
